Little is known about the Mystic Timestones… We know that they have the same powers as the Chaos emeralds and that time jumping is made easier with them. However, they also have extremely powerful elemental powers as well.
It is believed that the Timestones originally started as one Timestone, seeing as the 8 small stones seem to fit exactly into the master Timestone, forming a large prefect shaped emerald.
Full records of these emeralds 1st appeared in the tablets of the echidnas, but they are believed to predate the echidnas by many more thousands of years. The only people who know the full history of the Timestones are their guardians.
Each Timestone carries a base element; 4 physical, 4 ethereal, and 1 that controls all:
Earth Timestone = a small green emerald
Air Timestone = a small clear emerald
Fire Timestone = a small red emerald
Water Timestone = a small blue emerald
Life Timestone = a small white emerald
Death Timestone = a small black emerald
Spirit Timestone = a small purple emerald
Time = a small mist grey emerald
The Master Timestone = The controller of all is an emerald-green emerald larger than the other Timestones
The Timestones find their guardians by looking into the heart to find which element would be best fitted to the guardians. This isn't always the same element that the guardian is magically best with or born to. The best example of this is Blackfox, the guardian of spirit. Blackfox is magically good with fire, but born to the shadows… However, her heart holds the power of spirit, as she proved in her years as an echidna slave. Her spirits are not easily crushed and she will bite back. She will even boost the spirits of others if they need it. This was what the Timestone of Spirit saw in her, and hence bonded with Blackfox…
These Timestones themselves are very interesting indeed. They are not merely stones in the sense that one would normally think of when the word "stone" is brought to mind. Rather, they are in fact for the most part living entities that are as much individual and unique as the elements they represent. They have their own individual personalities and behaviours. They will always try to keep in balance with their respective guardians and in such a manner, they will protect their guardians as their guardians protect them.
